October 2026

Medicare Open Enrollment runs from October 15 through December 7, 2026. With significant Medicare plan changes coming to Fairfield County in 2027, now is the time to review your coverage and make sure it continues to meet your healthcare needs and budget.
What Is Medicare Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment is the annual period when people with Medicare can review their current coverage and make changes for the upcoming year. Any changes made during this period generally take effect on January 1, 2027.
During Open Enrollment, you can:
- Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan, or vice versa.
- Change from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another.
- Join, change, or drop a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, if eligible.
Why Is Reviewing Your Coverage Especially Important This Year?
Many Medicare beneficiaries in Fairfield County have already received notices that their current plans will no longer be offered in 2027. If you received one of these notices, it is important to review your options and find coverage that meets your needs.
Even if your plan is continuing, its premiums, benefits, provider networks, prescription drug coverage, and out-of-pocket costs may change for the new year.
When comparing plans, look beyond monthly premiums and extra benefits. Make sure your doctors, hospitals, and prescription medications are covered, and consider the overall cost of your care.
Attend a Free Medicare Open Enrollment Event
SWCAA’s CHOICES department will be offering Medicare presentations and outreach events throughout Fairfield County during Open Enrollment. These events are an opportunity to learn more about Medicare, understand your coverage options, and get information to help you make informed decisions for 2027.
